THE FRANKLIN ACADEMY CARPOOL PROCEDURES

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures (Franklin Street- K-3)

In order to ensure the safety of our students at all times, we must adhere to strict procedures during arrival and dismissal times.

The process for the arrival of students is as follows:

School begins at 8:00 a.m. and students may arrive as early as 7:45 a.m.  Cars are to pull completely down the carpool line.  Do NOT stop in front of each building to drop students off.  Stop only once in the line.  We encourage all parents to help their children learn to exit the car and enter the building independently.  Students should be ready to exit the car upon pulling in front of either building.  Students start their day best when they are in class and ready to learn at 8:00 a.m.  Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. will need to be checked in at the office by a parent/guardian in order to receive a tardy slip to be permitted in class.

Students must be dropped off in the carpool line along Franklin Street in front of Building I or II.  The school requests that parents, siblings and/or family members not develop the habit of personally escorting their children into the school building.  If a circumstance arises where it is necessary to escort your child into the school building, please be considerate of others by not parking in the carpool line.  Parents may park past the carpool line on Franklin Street in the morning for this purpose.  Building I and II parking lots will be closed during morning carpool to ensure the safety of the children entering the building.

The process for dismissal of students is as follows:

Buildings I and II will dismiss utilizing the “all-call” system within the classrooms.  Building I will begin dismissing at 2:45 p.m. and Building II will begin dismissing at 3:00 p.m.  The office will call carpool numbers and students will safely exit the building. The school asks that all parents/guardians remain outside of the buildings until 3:15 p.m.  If you need assistance from the office in either building, please wait until 3:15 p.m.  At 3:15 p.m. you may enter the building if necessary.

By following these simple procedures, our school will be able to efficiently and safely execute the arrival and dismissal procedures of the students.

Carpool Procedures (K-3)

It is important that parents and students understand the procedures of carpool.  Below is an outline of the procedure:

  1. Carpool line follows Franklin Street from 98.  Do not come in line from Holding Street (past the Wake County Library) or on Elm Street (past the Wake Forest Fire Department).
  2. Carpool line will proceed to the front of Building I and teachers will assist students into their vehicles.  Do not pull down in front of Building I until 2:40 p.m.
  3. When picking up students from Building I, arrive in the carpool line between 2:45 and 3:00 p.m.  When picking up students from Building II, arrive in the carpool line between 3:00 and 3:15 p.m. (the 2nd shift).
  4. You may not make a U-Turn on Franklin Street.  The Wake Forest Police Department often monitors our carpool for safety.  They will ticket any cars that are not in compliance with our carpool procedures.
  5. Students may not walk across Franklin Street, nor may parents park across Franklin Street and run across to pick students up.
  6. If you are picking up students from both Building I and Building II, please arrive at carpool for the 2nd shift between 3:00 and 3:15 p.m.
  7. Second and third grade students with younger siblings should walk to the front of Building I for pickup.  Second and third grade students without younger siblings should go to the front of Building II for pickup.

If your child will be picked up in the 2nd shift of carpool between 2:45 and 3:00 p.m.:

  1. If you arrive early to the carpool line, do not proceed to Building I; stay behind the painted school zone (on the street) with your safety flashers on.  This will alert other parents that you are waiting for the 2nd shift of carpool.

Procedures for Carpool in Inclement Weather (K-3)

Carpool will proceed as usual during inclement weather.  Please be extra patient on these days as the school does its best to get children out quickly and safely.

Late pick-up (K-3)

All children are to be picked up on time.  There will be a late fee charged for anyone who is not picked up by 3:00 (K-1, who does not wait for second shift); 3:15 (grades two and three or from K-3 who carpool with students from Building II).  The late fee is $1.00 per minute, per child – paid to the school personnel with whom the student(s) is/are waiting.  The form of payment needs to be cash and is due at the time the child is picked up.  Please do not ask to be excused from this fee.  You will be denied.  It can be quite traumatic for students to be left behind after his/her classmates are gone.  The school does understand that emergencies arise and will deal with them on an individual basis.  If a parent knows he/she is going to be late, he/she should call the school office, otherwise fees will be charged
